Many countries,
regions, cities and towns have changed their name over the course
of history. It is important to be aware of such changes when researching
leprosy history, in order to avoid inaccuracy and confusion. Throughout
this site, every attempt has been made to refer to places as they
are now known, except where specific reference is made to old place
names in archival sources. Please contact
us if you discover any inadvertent discrepancies in place names
during your visit to this site.
Names
of countries are displayed in normal font, those of places within
countries are in italics.
